The March 25th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Rucinski making a case for a roster spot, ranking Angels jerseys and much more…

The Story: Drew Rucinski is making a strong case for a roster spot.
The Monkey Says: The #FreeRucinski campaign is in full effect as some want him to get the final rotation spot. What’s more likely is that Rucinski will be given the long relief spot and Heaney, who was strong for four innings yesterday before falling apart in the fifth, will be given the two or three starts required to hold things down until Richards is ready. That way Heaney gets a little more MLB experience and more of a chance to prove himself and Rucinski still gets to hang around in case things go south.

The Story: The best Angels jerseys to wear.
The Monkey Says: Naturally, Leitch, a shameless Cardinals fan, makes it all about whether or not anyone would want to wear a Pujols jersey. Calhoun is a strong choice, but I think he missed the boat by not including local hero and arguably the greatest Angels pitcher of all-time, Jered Weaver.

The Story: Fangraphs positional power rankings for first base.
The Monkey Says: The Angels rank 14th because Albert Pujols isn’t Albert Pujols anymore.

The Story: Fangraphs positional power rankings for second base.
The Monkey Says: Shockingly, the Angels are at #26. That really says more about the sad state of the position around the league than the talent on the Angels roster though.

The Story: A winter revival for Jose Alvarez.
The Monkey Says: He’s been a nice story in camp, too, but Rucinski has totally overshadowed him. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see Alvarez spend some time on the big league roster.

The Story: It will be tough for the Angels to repeat their 98-win season.
The Monkey Says: Well, duh. 98-win talent teams just don’t really exist anymore so for any team to win 95+, it requires a lot of luck and good fortune.

The Story: Scott Servais talks about some of the prospects in Angels training camp.
The Monkey Says: Nothing earth-shattering here other than Greg Mahle continues to gain notice and could be a someone who shoots up the ladder quickly to be a specialist reliever in the majors.
