The February 20th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Street making progress on extension, Wilson says ankle never fully healed and much more…
The Story: Huston Street and the Angels are making steady progress on a contract extension.
The Monkey Says: Street is acting as his own agent and wants between $36 million and $46 million over four years. As I said recently, this is a bad idea. He’s comparing himself to Robertson and Miller, but Street is two years older than those guys and there is little reason for the Halos to lock him up now when he already has a such a lengthy injury history.
The Story: C.J. Wilson blames the flu and a lingering ankle injury for his struggles in the second half of last season.
The Monkey Says: Everyone loves C.J.’s excuses, right? Let’s hope he is actually right though because it sure would be nice if he pitched well this season instead of pitching like the guy that lasted all of 1/3 of an inning in the ALDS.
The Story: C.J. Cron and David Freese both had surgery over the offseason but are fully healthy now.
The Monkey Says: Just in case you wanted to update your medical records.
The Story: Mike Scioscia is now leaning towards keeping Mike Trout in the two-hole.
The Monkey Says: Sanity prevails. It sounds mainly like Scioscia just doesn’t want Joyce and Calhoun hitting back-to-back, but at least he is coming to the right decision, even if it is for the wrong reasons.
