The August 18th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Wilson to have surgery Thursday, Shoemaker to make Triple-A start and much more…
The Story: C.J. Wilson is set for surgery on Thursday.
The Monkey Says: It turns out his exam discovered bone chips in addition to bone spurs, so I bet all those alleged players that doubted his injury feel pretty dumb right now. Not dumb because they doubted his toughness but dumb because they don’t know the difference between bone chips and bone spurs which I assure you that I do provided you have absolutely no follow-up questions on the topic.
The Story: Matt Shoemaker will make a Triple-A start on Saturday and be re-assessed.
The Monkey Says: It sounds like they could be convinced that he just needs some mechanical tweaks and return to the rotation. However, part of me still thinks that his demotion is more about them wanting to get a longer look at Nick Tropeano.
The Story: According to Statcast, Mike Trout has one of the slowest first steps among MLB center fielders.
The Monkey Says: That’s fascinating and might partly explain his not always great defensive metrics. I’d be more interested in seeing numbers on his route efficiency though as I’ve always suspected that was more of the problem.
The Story: Albert Pujols still has the worst contract in baseball.
The Monkey Says: And because it is so heavily backloaded, it is only going to look worse as he declines. I already feel worse about it now than I did at the beginning of the season.
The Story: Who’s the best in the AL West?
The Monkey Says: E) None of the above? Nobody is exactly running away with the thing, so I don’t know that we can claim a king just yet. As poorly as the Angels are playing right now, if they go on another hot streak like they did before the All-Star break, they could run away with the division like they did last season.
The Story: Get to know the Angels international prospects.
The Monkey Says: Or don’t. They take so long to develop you are better waiting until they come stateside as only the ones that are worth a damn actually do.
