Angels Player Power Rankings - Week 18

As always, the rankings are based on a player’s overall season performance with a weight on recent performance.

1		— 0 Last Week: 1	Mike Trout – Three more homers, another stupid amazing homer-robbing catch. Another run-of-the-mill week for Mike Trout.
2		— 0 Last Week: 2	Jered Weaver – It is safe to say that Weaver appears to have conquered his demons when it comes to pitching in Texas in the heat.
3		+1 Last Week: 4	Albert Pujols – This is the Albert Pujols the Angels paid absurd money for, especially the part where he is a waking nightmare for the Texas Rangers.
4		-1 Last Week: 3	Mark Trumbo – I like to think that Trumbo struck out so much in Texas because he was trying to help everyone beat the triple-digit heat by providing them with a nice breeze.
5		+4 Last Week: 9	Torii Hunter – Hunter is hitting like he is 27 again, but he continues to make the baserunning decisions of a senile 87 year old.
6		+1 Last Week: 7	Dan Haren – Haren continues to look better, but let’s just hope he can do it again without having to skip a start in between.
7		-1 Last Week: 6	Zack Greinke – His second start was not great, but it could get wiped out via protest. Personally, I protest anyone that allows homers to A.J. Pierzynski.
8		-3 Last Week: 5	C.J. Wilson – Mike Scioscia has asked that Scioscia drop the PMA (Postive Mental Attitude) for some PME (Pitch More Efficiently).
9		+4 Last Week: 13	Kendrys Morales – He smacks homers from both sides of the plate in one inning and then gets benched the very next game. Such is the will of Scioscia.
10		-2 Last Week: 8	Ernesto Frieri – Texas was responsible for ending Frieri’s no-hit streak earlier this year and now Texas has ended his no blown saves streak as well.
11		— 0 Last Week: 11	Alberto Callaspo – He’s finally starting to come around again, but that still doesn’t justify him having started 19 consecutive games.
12		+4 Last Week: 16	Howie Kendrick – Kendrick has grounded into a double play in 25% of possible GIDP situations which is the worst in the majors. I think we all knew he was that bad, but I just needed to confirm it.
13		+2 Last Week: 15	Chris Iannetta – In one week, Iannetta walked six times. Bobby Wilson has walked all of 13 times this entire season.
14		+4 Last Week: 18	Kevin Jepsen – We now live in a world where I am disappointed when any middle reliever other than Jepsen enters the game for the Halos. I don’t know what to think about anything anymore.
15		-3 Last Week: 12	LaTroy Hawkins – Hawkins picked a bad time to allow his second homer of the season. Et tu, LaTroy? Et tu?
16		+8 Last Week: 24	Ervin Santana – Some saw his last start as encouraging, but let’s not forget that he was one heroic leap from Mike Trout away from allowing three homers in that game. He ain’t fixed yet, folks.
17		— 0 Last Week: 17	Peter Bourjos – It would be nice if Bourjos would start hitting better so that I could start complaining about him forfeiting at-bats to Vernon Wells.
18		+4 Last Week: 22	Maicer Izturis – He’s finally showing some life with the bat, just in time to return to his bench role where he can cool off.
19		— 0 Last Week: 19	Garrett Richards – Lost in the first bullpen meltdown against Texas was Richards’ inability to hold onto a big lead.
20		+1 Last Week: 21	Bobby Wilson – Bobby Wilson is a not-so-lean, kind-of-mean, sacrifice bunting machine (10 sac bunts in just 169 plate apperances).
21		-1 Last Week: 20	Jerome Williams – Want to know why the save rule is stupid? Because Williams got a save this week when he went four innings and allowed five runs while “protecting” a twelve-run lead that turned into a seven-run win.
22		-8 Last Week: 14	Jason Isringhausen – I guess we should be glad that Isringhausen only lost two of the four games he appeared in this week.
23		— 0 Last Week: n/a	David Carpenter – I don’t care how spent the Angel bullpen is, David Carpenter should never, EVER pitch in a high leverage situation.
24		-1 Last Week: 23	Vernon Wells – In his 15 plate appearances since returning from the DL, Wells has five strikeouts and absolutely nothing else to show for it.
25		— 0 Last Week: 25	Hisanori Takahashi – If you are a left-handed reliever who can’t get left-handed batters out, you lose the right to get upset when you are not brought into a game so that you can fail at getting out another left-handed batter in a clutch situation.
