Angels starting to look vintage; defeat Yankees 6-2

Hey, I remember this team. The decent starting pitchng. The shut down bullpen. The timely hitting and agressive baserunnig. The occasionally boneheaded play that ends up meaning nothing in the end. It's as if someone went down to the clubhouse and reminded Mik Scioscia what his teams used to excel at. Over the past two games the Angels have been the team on the offensive. Granted the Yankees are not what they used to be, but an extended winning streak is what the Halos need if they have any hope of getting into the playoffs. They play like this and that might just happen.

Angels 6 Yankees 2

Game Notes

— Tommy Hanson was actually pretty good today. 6 1/3 only giving up 2 runs and striking out 8 is just what we want from Tommy. I like the fact that he was agressive in the zone and challenged hitters (are you paying attention CJ?)

— The bullpen continues to be solid with Donws and Kohn coming up huge when the game was still very much in doubt. Kevin Jepsen was solid once again and Ernesto was awesome striking out the side in the ninth. The bullpen is key to any momentum the Angels might have so if they pitch like this we can start to believe. (cue the impending bullpen implosion tomorrow. Don't say you weren't warned.)

— The offense banged out 12 hits and another 6 walks. This is how they have to play to win. The ballpark is not conducive to homer happy clubs so bunchuing hits is the way to score runs in Anaheim. We used to know that, I'm glad to see Mike's not forgotten that fact.

"Hi! I'm Howard Kendrick and I hit. No smiles from me this year. I'm all business and I want your vote for the All Star game. I'm hitting .336 and just had another 3 hit game. If you vote for the midget in Boston or that prima donna in New York I'm gonna get pissed. And this year, when I swing I won't miss."
