Changing teams is like changing jobs. There’s always a bit of an adjustment. Learning the culture of the clubhouse, trying to live up to the expectations, a new manager, the pressures of the contract, etc. always make it a bit of a challenge.
After getting off to a rough start, Vernon Wells has provided power to the lineup. Since returning from the DL on June 6th, Wells has slugged 12 home runs, giving him 16 HRs in 83 games. The Angels are 34-13 when he bats cleanup.
Vernon Wells has played 1,472 Major League games over 12+ seasons and has yet to make a playoff appearance. Now that he is on the Angels, and has a chance to play in October, he knows that a big part of the Angels’ success will have to come from him. He knows that as a veteran, he not only has to mentor the younger players, he needs to lead by example. While he may have been making an adjustment when he first got to the Angels, it’s now up to him to step up his performance.
AngelsWin.com sat down with Vernon Wells to find out how he’s getting ready for the stretch drive and how he’s helping the younger players adjust to life in the Major Leagues and his life outside of baseball. Click below to listen to our interview with Vernon Wells.
