Box Score
The Good: The Bees had four players with two RBI’s and two hits on the night. Conger belted his fourth home run of season, Trumbo played right field and knocked in two with a triple after a 2-5 performance and Hainley Statia clubbed two doubles on the night. Amalio Diaz (2.35) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out two.
The Bad: The lefthanded sidearmer Daniel Davidson gave up four runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings of work on Tuesday, but he still earned his 4th win of the season.
Noteworthy: Peter Bourjos was back in action for the Bees and went 1-5 on the night. Bourjos has just 5 walks vs. 22 strikeouts on the season. A ratio that will not get it done from the leadoff speed. Bourjos has just four stolen bases, despite his well above average speed.
Arkansas Travelers
Box Score
The Good: Carlos Colmenares (.292) played 3B and had three knocks on the night. Paul McAnulty (9) and Clay Fuller (3) each had a home run in a losing effort on Tuesday night. Jeremy Moore went 1-4, but stole his 6th base of the season.
The Bad: Alert the masses, Michael Kohn is human!! Kohn suffered his first blown save of the season and second loss after giving up four runs on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. Kohn did strikeout two, though his ERA raised to 2.45. Andrew Romine went 0-5 with two strikeouts. He’s hitting just .156 in his last ten games.
Noteworthy: Michael Kohn who entered the ninth inning giving up just one run in his last 17 2/3 innings, didn’t have good command or his normal 92-96 MPH fastball on the night. Every good pitcher has a bad night when they don’t have their stuff, so let’s chalk this one up as such. Right fielder Julio Perez left the game after grounding out in the seventh inning due to a hamstring strain.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
Box Score
The Good: Tyson Auer went 2-5 and stole two bases (18, 19) and Alexi Amarista (.354) and Angel Castillo (.213) both had two knocks on Tuesday. Roberto Lopez (.333) went 1-3, but he also nabbed a runner trying to steal behind the plate. Matt Shoemaker went the distance (8 IP), giving up just one earned run, scattering ten hits, while striking out five.
Noteworthy: The Quakes could have a potent lineup by early summer if Mike Trout is promoted and Dillon Baird is back after injury. Something to consider!
Cedar Rapids Kernels
Box Score
The Good: Mike Trout (.376) went 2-4 with a walk, triple and three runs driven in. Jean Segura had three hits on the night, including two stolen bases (11, 12). Pat Corbin (4.13) went a quality six, giving up three runs on six hits, while fanning five. Corbin is a perfect 7-0 on the young season. The Bad: Carlos Ramirez (.183) and Justin Bass (.175) went a combined 0-7 on the night.
Noteworthy: Mike Trout was getting a ton of infield hits and singles to start the season and for much of the month of April, but since late April on, Trout has been on an extra base tear. All five of Trout’s home runs have been hit in the month of May. He’s slugging at a .746 clip this month thus far and his season OPS has raised to 1.034.
