Angerer in key role

He’s ready for this

But Angerer took Philip Wheeler’s job the old-fashioned way – by playing great football until the Colts couldn’t keep him out of the lineup.

“I knew once the coaches thought I was ready and good enough to play, they would play me,” Angerer said.

While Angerer earned the spot at outside linebacker, he could be in the middle against the Cincinnati Bengals if Gary Brackett’s toe injury keeps him sidelined. The Colts (5-3) play the Bengals (2-6) at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“Pat’s done a great job,” Colts safety Antoine Bethea said. “As the rookie, he’s just come in and played tough already. Coming in at middle linebacker will be tougher, but it’s not his first game at that position. He’s going to be one of those players you’re going to see here for a long time.”
