According to the Senators website, the team’s new ‘heritage’ jerseys will be unveiled on an October 1st event at Scotiabank Place called ‘Puck Drop’. Festivities get under way at approximately 9:00am with Gate 1 opening half an hour later. Parking and admission are free.
Here is a list of the activities that will take place:
- First public look of Sens new Heritage jersey
- Ottawa Senators Open Practice
- Sens Street Tour inflatable games
- Roaming entertainers (Alexei Kovalev?)
- Sens Store Sale
- Face painting, tattoos and more!
20th Anniversary History Website Launches
Today the Senators also announced the launch two separate 20th Anniversary initiatives. The first is a new Senators history site that takes an in-depth look at the last 20 years of the franchise, including season-by-season summaries, statistics, photos and video highlights. Sens fans can also discover the proud history of the original Ottawa Senators from the early years through 11 Stanley Cup wins and click through memorable moments in Ottawa hockey history. Fans can access the historical site by visiting http://www.sens20.ca .
From the historical site’s main page, fans can access one of five tabs: Seasons; Club; Stats; Media Gallery; and The Early Years.
The Season’s Tab is straightforward; containing team photographs from each of its respective seasons.
From the Club tab, fans can relive the modern franchise’s history by examing the various jerseys, GMs, coaches, captains and awards that the team has had. Seriously, why can’t we go back to the jerseys from the early ’90s? Everything introduced since ’97 has been awful.
While I haven’t time to delve too deep into the statistics portion of the site, fans can look forward to sifting through:
- Player Stats
- Game by Game Results
- Game Notes Files
- Team Stats Comparison
- All-Time Player Stats
- All-Time Draft
- Standings
- vs All Teams
The Sens have done a fantastic job with their history’s media section. There is some nice archived video and photograph material that is available for mass public consumption. Hopefully throughout the course of the season the team will continue to add content to these galleries.
Finally, The Early Years portion of the website is devoted to educating Senators about Ottawa’s rich, yet often ignored, hockey history.
Senators 20th Photo Mosaic
The second initiative that’s been launched is the creation of a special 20th anniversary photo mosaic that will allow fans to submit photos of their favourite Sens moments of the last 20 years. The website www.hockeymakesus.com is an online mosaic that encourages Sens fans to upload a photo and write short personal profiles that describe their own most memorable hockey moments.
