The Badgers 2013 class was expected to be somewhat heavy upfront, but so far it’s the guards that have dominated the commitment list and earlier on Tuesday the Badgers added another one as 6’5″ shooting guard Jordan Hill gave his verbal commitment to play basketball for Bo Ryan and the Badgers. He currently plays his basketball for Exeter Prep in Exeter, New Hampshire but is a Pasadena, CA native. He sat down with us earlier tonight to give the lowdown on his recruitment and commitment to the Badgers.
Jordan made his announcement via Facebook stating simply, “Today I committed to the University of Wisconsin. Thank you to all of my family, friends, coaches and teammates who were there for me and believed in me. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you. Please believe this isn’t the end but the beginning of a new adventure. I won’t be satisfied until I’m on top and I’m not there yet. If you ride for me , I’ll ride for you. shout out badger nation . we on..”
He joins fellow guards Bronson Koenig and Riley Derring as members of the 2013 class for Wisconsin.
Hill was discovered while Wisconsin was actually watching another player on his AAU team, Bryan Alberts, and after receiving his first major conference offer it didn’t take long for Hill to make the decision and today he verbally committed to the Badgers.
It was a decision that wasn’t taken lightly and the unheralded recruit is a smart one as well, having offers from the likes of Lehigh, Dartmouth, and Yale amongst others.
But how did he come to such a quick choice to join the Badgers?
“I came to my decision by taking a few days after my unofficial last week to really sit down and look at all of my options,” Hill said. “I talked to my mom and dad a lot about the situation and I realized that Wisconsin would the best fit and the best place for me to flourish.”
Wisconsin not only was a place he wanted to be, but a place and a team that wanted him as well. He likes a challenge and we all know that playing at Wisconsin isn’t for the faint of heart or for those who don’t have extreme drive and passion to be successful.
“The deciding factor for me was the simple fact that it’s a great academic school and its Big Ten basketball which is the best conference in America,” said Hill during our one-on-one interview. “I need great competition and it’ll only push me to get better and accomplish more.”
Hill continued, “The campus was extremely beautiful and the facilities were amazing. The basketball team was very welcoming to me and I can’t turn down Bo Ryan as a coach.”
Obviously he admires the coach he just committed to, but what exactly is that relationship like at this early stage in the game?
“I think Coach Ryan and I have a pretty good relationship.” said Hill. “Of course its still budding, but I can’t wait to have a coach like him who will really push me more than I already push myself.”
Bo Ryan always seems to get the most out of the underrated kids and that’s clearly what Hill is, having not been rated by a single recruiting service out there. But, I’ll take a kid with some talent and a ton of drive any day of the week and I have a feeling so will Bo Ryan. We’ve seen it over and over again – this just smells like another one of those “Wisconsin kids.”
