Quite a lot of you are really knowledgable Bucs fans from the 70s! There are also a great number of you that followed the Bucs in 1996 and are posing!! But well go over the answers and the results!!
1)Which Tailback started 79 with multiple 100 yarders? It was Jerry Eckwood, who got hurt and eventually Ricky Bell started churning out 100 yard games and finished with 1200 plus yards. But in the beginning Eckwood had 2x 100 yard games and a 99 yarder in first 5 games. 67% of you chose Ricky Bell! At least no one fell for James Wilder who was in high school! 22% real Bucs fans!
2)When did Bucs score first Offensive TD at Home in 77? Answer was C week 14 at St.Louis, and its easy…the Bucs never scored more than 3 points at home all year, and only in one game, were shut out the rest of the time. So when someone says “Blah Blah Blah these Bucs are worst that the 0-26 Bucs, tell them to shut up…the 0-26 Bucs were shut out almost every game! 28% knew this and are Real Bucs fans! 39% got it wrong and choose Green Bay even though Bucs were shut out at home in that game. Sadly, 33% chose week 16 vs New Orleans, when the NFL only played 14 games in 1977. POSERS!!!
3)What season did MCKay say “if we beat the Bears and go .500 well contend in division race”. It was 1978, Doug Williams first year. See? get a franchise QB and you will contend! 56% got that right! Real Bucs fans!!! 44% guessed 1979, a good guess, can’t blame you. No posers fell for 1983 when the Bucs were 2-14 and nowhere near .500.
4)Doug Williams injury in NFC Playoff game vs Rams. 67% got it right, it was a Bicept injury, out for rest of the game, which was the NFC Championship game. 28% remember his Jaw being injured in 1978 in a regular season game against the Rams, so thats accountable to the passage of time! Good Job, rebuilding my faith in the long time Bucs fans again! Except that one person who said broken leg missed 83 season. A broken HEART was cause of Doug Missing the 83 season!
5)Which linebacker didn’t play at USC. Ok Im embarrassed again. As many of you chose McKays great college linebacker David Lewis as NOT playing at USC as Lee Roy Selmon’s brother Dewey who went to Oklahoma like Lee Roy did! Plus 4 people fell for Richard the Batman Wood as not being an USC alum! POSERS GALLORE!!!!
6)Culverhouse was originally selected to be the Bucs owner. Answer is FALSE! Business Man Tom McCloskey was originally selected to be the franchise owner, but he backed out when he quickly realized the amount of money required to be an NFL owner was more than he realized. Jacksonville businessman Hugh Culverhouse was there to pick up the pieces. Quite amazing that 39% got this right, some real Bucs fans out there!!
7 How were the Bucs named? It was a Name the Team contest, and 72% of you guessed it right. 1 of you is a major poser, answering “Tampa Mayor Bill “Bucco” Bruce” was why the team got named Buccaneers. Really? You fell for the Bucco Bruce? There was no mayor Bill Bruce!! Dude…just admit you started following the Bucs in 2005! Another one of you chose the fact that NFL named it to prevent problems with Politically incorrect names. The NFL STILL has the REDSKINS, do you think they cared about PC in the 70s? There was no PC in the 70s, PC is a late 80s early 90s thing. WE HAVE TWO POSERS OUT THERE!!!
8) How many times did Bucs change Unis? Well I goofed on this, I put in the incorrect answer. The true answer is 3. The Bucs had White Shirts with Orange numbers in 1976, went to Red Numbers with orange trim in 1977-96 because too many complained they couldn’t read the numbers in the florida sun. Then (having a hard time confirming this online) the Bucco Bruce logo was enlarged, but this is minor like patches. The next big change was going to Orange pants and White tops in 1992 under Sam Wyche, so TWO is the correct answer, which 28% got right. Well let all answers slide on this one.
SO overall not bad! Its pretty much as I thought…there are a few posers out there, and a lot of you have just forgotten because its been a long time, but I give credit for those who did not go to Google.com to search for the answers!! Hopefully this was fun an informative! Plus remember it doesnt matter when you became a Bucs fan, just that you are one!!
