Anyone Who Punches Brady Quinn Can Play On My Team — Lions Sign Shaun Smith

With Jared DeVries going down with a season ending injury, the Lions’ interest in DL Shaun Smith went up.  Smith, who was already visiting the Lions before DeVries got hurt, ended the day under a one-year, $1 million deal with the team.  Smith is a 6’2″ 325 lbs body that will certainly help fill the hole that DeVries leaves.  More after the jump…

Smith was available for the Lions to sign because he was released this past weekend by the Cleveland Browns. Apparently he butted heads with the defensive coordinator on Friday and with that Cleveland “needed to clear a roster spot.” Friday’s incident was most likely the last straw for Smith as “he was already on thin ice with some in the organization after reportedly punching Brady Quinn in the face during a weigh-room altercation in December.”

Pardon my French, but c’est basier impressionnant!  Notice how that Cleveland newspaper said he was only on thin ice “with some” in the organization?  That’s because not everyone can be mad at him for punching their pretty boy, back-up quarterback.  Some in the organization probably would put Smith on a pedestal for knocking out the guy who stars in more commercials shirtless without ever having a starting gig in the NFL.

Yeah, Smith’s attitude will have to get better for the Lions to get the most out of him, but any guy who punched out Brady Quinn has a roster spot on my team.  Welcome aboard, Shaun Smith.   And hey, one more thing — if Shaun Rogers wants to come back, then by all means bring him with you.

GO LIONS!
