The St. Louis Blues have some outstanding jerseys. Prior to unveiling their new home and away sweaters, the consensus around the league was that the team had one of the best alternates of any NHL team. That sentiment is still mostly true, but the more serious Blues fans quickly flocked to the new home/road sweaters. With the old owners being responsible for the design of the current alternate, rumors have been tossed around about Tom Stillman and company redesigning the alternate at some point to round out the look the team has with their new home and road jerseys. To date, the rumors have been just that, but here’s a bit more smoke for discussion.
In his chat, Jeremy Rutherford was asked about the rumored new alternates.
His answer:
“Yes, I have heard rumblings about a jersey being in the works. I don’t have any details. As I’ve mentioned in this chat, the third jerseys are often tied into the outdoor games, and I know the Blues are working diligently toward bringing one to St. Louis in the near future, perhaps as soon as next year.”
That outdoor game likely refers to a Stadium Series game which the Blues would theoretically host at Busch Stadium against the Chicago Blackhawks. That’s a best guess as nothing has been confirmed or even speculated about an outdoor game for the Blues at this stage. Unveiling a new alternate to go with an outdoor game makes a lot of sense, but that may all depend on if the Blues are given the green light to host a game at any time in the near future. Should the Blues be passed over, a new alternate could appear a bit sooner should the Blues feel the need to rush them out.
Stay tuned.
