Are you not Entertained? Purdue

Of course you’re not. That was simply one of the worst experiences imaginable. Lets get this over with.

Are you not Entertained? Purdue
Fickell wasn't particularly entertained himself.
Improvements in the passing game. There were some promising parts to the passing game. Miller missed a couple open shots down field in the 3rd quarter (most likely because his passes drifted due to the wind), and there was an excellent pass play to a wide open receiver on the last drive of the 4th. Overall, Miller was 8/18 for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns – better than he’s been yet.

Continue to pound the ball.  Desperately trying to pound the ball is half of what got us in trouble in the first place. Purdue stacked the box on every down that they strongly suspected we would run, and given our tendencies they were right nearly every time. The few times they weren’t, they were able to get to Miller pretty quickly with their pass rush.

Three and outs.  The Buckeyes only managed three 3 and outs. The Boilermakers converted fully half of their third down attempts, 9/18 for the game. Simply not good enough.

A win. Yea, no.

A Penn State loss to Nebraska.  We got this at least. To bad it means a lot less now. Right now, we need to beat Penn State, and Penn State to beat Wisconsin in Madison. That’s pretty unlikely this season.

Inspired performance. We didn’t see much passion from this team until late, and even then it simply wasn’t there. This team came out flat, played flat, and never really got excited the entire game.

Five sacks from the defensive line. We saw five sacks from a defensive line, but it was the wrong line. Purdue got Braxton Miller five times in this game. The Buckeyes only sacked a Purdue quarterback once, when Shazier took down Terbush.

Boom Herron for 200. The team didn’t gain 200 yards in the game.

Carlos Hyde for another 100. Ain’t likely going to happen on just 4 carries.

Braxton Miller completes 10+ passes. He almost got this, just 2 completions shy.

We saw Hall in the passing game too.
A fully awake team. As mentioned earlier, this team was as flat as the great plains.

More Carlos Hyde. We got 4 carries for 12 yards from him.

Boom Herron. He gained 62 yards on 18 carries, his lowest output of the season, and the first time he was below 100 yards in a game.

Hall in the return game. We did get this. Jordan Hall was back and returning kicks and punts for the Buckeyes and did a fair job.

Focus, Both Sides. Apparently we kept asking for this, but all in vain.

Defensive Score. The defense has still failed to break the goal line, despite a couple of potential opportunities that were missed. Purdue was desperately trying to complete a pass to the Buckeyes, and the defense just couldn’t hold on.

Breaking The Hope Jinx. It is amazing that despite all his issues, Hope continues to beat the Buckeyes. Absolutely astounding.

Diversity. We had to add a little diversity in, because it’s certainly broken now. The OSU running game was not able to get it done today by itself, and the passing scheme was insufficient at best.

No False Starts. No dice this week. Despite missing Shugarts, Mike Adams did us in this time.

Chris

Coverage. Chris asked that we shut down the passing game. I think we got the exact opposite.

Three more 100 yard rushers. I feel like we’ll be asking for just one 100 yard rusher next week. Perhaps it will be more like begging.

Inspired play. See above.

A win. In your wildest dreams.

Boom in the Top Ten. He needed 41, he got 62. Boom Herron’s now in the top ten of running backs in OSU history!

Two TD Burner. We had two touchdown passes, but neither went to Stoneburner. In fact, he didn’t catch a pass all game.

Force Two Turnovers. We got one, one turnover. It came at the right time, but would have been a lot more sweet if we had made that last extra point in the 4th quarter.
