Arkansas looking to leave the SEC?

I am glad that conference expansion is over for now. Glad the SEC did not pull the trigger at any point.

All this talk about which conference has 10 teams but is called the Big 12 or the Big 10 but has 12 teams can be pretty confusing. I have come up with some new names that I think the conferences should at least consider why we wait to see what else will happen this off season.

• Big 12– I think you should call yourself the Texas 10, we all know that Texas runs your conference. Now just let them name your conference.
• Big 10– How about the Mid-West 12 Conference. It sounds better then the Big 10, 11 or 12.
• Pac 10– You will now be known as the 12-Pac, find a beer company to sponsor your new 12- Pac championship game, and you will be all set.

Well, we’ve had about a 24 hour break before new developments are coming out that Arkansas is considering joining the Texas 10 (aka the former Big 12). I am not sure why they would want to leave the SEC, but they have sent out feelers to see what all would happen if they did change conferences.

Rumor is they have looked into it but then we hear they backed away….WHY EVEN CONSIDER?

I personally have ties to the state of Arkansas, but would not be to sad to see them leave. Maybe pick up Virginia Tech, they seem to be a pretty good fit for the SEC.

As of right now, it is all rumors, but with Jerry Jones sticking his nose in conference expansion, you never know what could happen. It might work out better for travel if Arkansas leaves, then we could move Vandy to the west and move VT right in to the East. This would make the SEC East the toughest conference in college football, if it isn’t already.

Another rumor is that Notre Dame might join the Texas 10 as well, to give them 12 teams again. As Jerry Jones said earlier, the Big 12 would be gushing money, a super conference like the old south west conference. I am not sure if Arkansas and ND paid attention last week when we found out that Texas owns the Big 12. You are better off just staying independent and playing Big 10 schools. By joining the Big 12, you will just be giving Texas all of your money.

Any thoughts on what might happen now with conference expansion talks…is there more to come or is it dead for now?
