Although The US have already qualified for the World Cup in Brazil their is much work to be done in preparation. Many players are competing for playing time and the right to be on the roster. Jurgen called up a number of young players and he excluded a few older players. One of the most intriguing players called up to the team is Icelandic-American youngster Aron Johannsson. The 22 year old is new to the American scene and is looking to impress the fans and Jurgen. At 22 years old he has a lot of work to do to get himself on the team and will have to surpass several players who are more experienced.

Aron was born in Mobile, Alabama but moved and lived in Iceland from the age of three. He grew up playing for the Icelandic youth teams and making appearances last year for Iceland U-21. He turned pro in 2008 playing for Icelandic professional side Fjolinr. He transferred to Danish side Aarhus Gymnastikforening in 2010. During his time at Aarhus he earned a call up to the Iceland squad but do to a groin injury he could not play. If it was not for that groin injury, Aron would not be eligible to play for the United States. After moving to Dutch side AZ and becoming teamates with USMNT star Jozy Altidore, Aron decided to play for the USMNT.

Since joining AZ Aron has gone from not on the US radar to one of the countries most promising young talents. He has scored 10 goals this season and is averaging a goal a game. Apart from being a potent goal scorer, Araon has a different skill set then other US players. He is more dynamic uses his speed and creativity to get by defenders. He is not like Jozy who uses strength and size. AJ is a type of player that the US haven’t had at lest in a long time. Very young, very speedy and skilled he has the potential to become a super star. He is only 22 and showing the skill set an ability to improve.

Since arriving at AZ Aron’s growth has been noticeable, it appears he is getting better each and every game. He is proving to be a dynamic force in the dutch league and if he continues to impress and grow his game he will be playing for bigger clubs and starting along side former teammate Jozy Altidore. Although he is shown to be a promising young talent, he is all potential until he shows Jurgen otherwise. Right now the USMNT have about 6 people all fighting for the same position and only a few will be selected. Aron will have to maximize his opportunities, the pressure is on him to score and produce on the field.
