An ongoing look at the off-season goalie moves.
The following teams are in the market for starters this summer:
–Florida
–Tampa Bay
–Philadelphia
–Phoenix
-Anaheim (maybe)
Most teams have at least one goalie under contract and ready to play. The above list has questions. They are either losing both starters or their main starter and a backup is not ready to step up.
The list of UFA goalies is (and current team):
Giguere (Leafs)
Vokoun (Panthers)
Bryzgalov (Coyotes)
Labarbera (Coyotes)
LeClaire (Senators)
McElhinney (Senators)
Roloson (Lightning)
Smith (Lightning)
Hedberg (Devils)
Osgood (Red Wings) ???
Turco (Blackhawks)
Conklin (Blues)
Budaj (Avalanche)
Mathieu (Blue Jackets)
Harding (Wild)
Drouin-Deslauries (Oilers)
Auld (Canadians)
Boucher (Flyers)
Lalime (Sabres)
Karlsson (Flames)
Theodore (Minnesota)
Emery (Anaheim)
List found at NHL Trade Rumors. Please let me know if you have any additional for the list or ones to take off. Or if there is a better site. I tried Cap Geek but it shut down my Chrome. I did not include players that have already resigned with their current teams.
Obviously not all of the above players are starters and some of the above named teams desperately need a starter.
Recently, Chris Osgood has stated he is thinking about retiring due to family reasons. He claims he is completely recovered from his surgery but we will have to wait and see what the summer brings and if he returns to play in the fall.
According to Jody Jackson’s twitter:
Maloney says he is meeting with Bryzgalov agent on Friday.11:28 PM May 10th via Twitter for BlackBerry®
There has been no other additional information released on that end.
I do hope the Coyotes are able to resign Bryz. Even though he can be streaky (when he is on, he is ON but when it gets in his head… he is WAY OFF) but he is probably one of the better ones on the list. This past playoff run should have demonstrated that.
If not Bryz, maybe Phoenix can get Vokoun. I would settle for that. I would love to see Bryz sign with Phoenix and Vokoun sign with Philadelphia. A girl can dream, no?
Stay tuned this off season as I will try to keep this updates with all the changes.
