Well, I’ve crossed Bryz off the goalie list. I still can’t believe someone is willing to pay him 10 million dollars this coming season and sacrifice two top scorers for him. Sorry love, he is just not worth it. He is a 31 year old, bi-polar, unproven playoff Russian goalie. He hasn’t gotten out of the first round the past two years. This past playoff was a joke. Yes, he won a cup with Anaheim but who was the starting goalie for those games? Oh yah, J.S. Giguere.
If you follow me on twitter, I am guessing you already saw my tirade on Thursday. I had to wait to write this until I calmed down a bit. (I’m still not there but am much more calm). I expected Carter, there were a ton of rumors flying about him. I had heard one about Richards but honestly didn’t expect the Flyers to trade both Carter & Richards. Who is going to step up in their place? Is Bryz going to score those 55 (give or take) goals this year? Is Carcillo going to suddenly become a 30+ goal scorer? (hah!)
The Flyers got a couple of ok/average players and a couple of picks. I am so worried about this coming season. I have a feeling they won’t make the playoffs. And if they do? Hello soft goal city! I don’t see them getting out of the first round with Bryz and the current cast of characters.
And what does this mean for Bobrovsky? Little to no playing time? Bad influence from Bryz? Gah, he had potential but now he’s stuck behind Bryz for the next 9 seasons. He needs some coaching and the chance to play and get better.
What really bothers me is the fact that Holmgren appears to be the biggest asshole in this story (maybe even bigger than Bryz). According to this story, Carter basically went to Holmgren to see if the rumors were true and was told he wasn’t being traded. And remember (as the story reminds us), he took a pay cut previously to help the Flyers and stay with the organization. He could have made more money on the free market but wanted to be a Flyer and agreed to lower money so they wouldn’t have cap issues. Then Bryz comes along and its screw you Carter and your loyalty. Loyalty doesn’t matter when we can get screwed by a Russian!
