At Carolina Flashback: Was it only two years ago we were 9-3?That’s right..TWO YEARS AGO! It was billed up as one of the biggest MNF games in recent memory. It had been many seasons since two 9-3 teams faced each other, and with two teams with such good records facing each other so late in the year. The Bucs were in the game most of the night to say the least; they went down 10-3 at the half, then roared back on a beauty Garcia pass to Antonio Bryant. Now if your new to the Bucs, or if your memory isn’t what it used to be, this was when Antonio Bryant was having an extraordinary season and Joey Galloway was the disappointment, not AB. Joey G had a foot injury issue all camp/preseason and that is after the injury of his shoulder surrounding the Playoff game vs Giants. Gruden found a new Toy in Antonio Bryant, who filled the void. To say this was a breakout game for AB would be an understatement, He had over 200 yards in this game, the first Bucs WR to do so since Mark Carrier in the late 80s. With Carolina going up 17-10, Cadillac Williams ran hard into the end zone to make up for the bad memories of being in the very same stadium where he damaged his knee the year before. But the real hard running would be done by Carolina; They ran the ball for 300 yards on the Bucs, and only Delhome taking a knee at the end of the game brought the rushing total back under 300 to 299, but we don’t count that. It’s a 300 yard effort on the heels of DC Monte Kiffin announcing his retirement, and the next three games would be the last for the previous Buccaneer generation. The Irony of the matter is the Monday Night Football announcers had no idea they were broadcasting the game that started the process of Jon Gruden getting fired which would end the broadcasting career of one of them on their staff!! Once the game got out of control, Garcia Hit AB for hands down the most spectacular Bucs reception of all time.
