At the Half: Rock Bottom?

Hello Followers.

Well, we’re at the half, and we’re down 40-28 to the last place ASU Sun Devils who, amazingly, are whipping our backside in spite of not having Ty Abbott in the lineup!

For those of you who have missed the background, Aden is not playing today because of his bum knee.

And, Klay Thompson did not play the first 7 minutes of this one because he was late for the team bus (a la Casto and Capers last year).

So, when you’re leader is showing up late for a must win game and everyone else save Moore and Abe did not show up to play, you have to figure that this is rock bottom, right?

Well, we’ll see about that.

In the meantime, in view of my comments re: Defense yesterday, I’ve been charting the number of uncontested threes hoisted by the Sun Devils.  The “unofficial count”

Uncontested  3’s: 6-14 (42%)

Contested 3’s: 1-2 (50%)

Obviously, what that shows us is that (a) ASU is patient in waiting for the open look; and (b) we’re still doing the same old same old over-helping and over-rotating.  There SHOULD NOT BE THAT MANY OPEN LOOKS from 3 point land no matter what defense you’re playing.

We’ll see if the season has bottomed out in this first half.  This next half is going to be the start of a turnaround for this group or the final nail in the coffin.
