Another day, another baby step closer to brats on the grill, beverages in the cooler, games being played, and students barely showing up before the end of the 1st quarter. We're just 84 days away from all of that happening and more, which for us here at MTB means we're Austin Maly to Badger football kicking off in 2013.
For those of us living in the state of Wisconsin and paying attention to high school football chances are Maly is a name you remember from his days at Waunakee high school.
Story So Far:
– Maly is a redshirt sophomore, however he has yet to see any time on the field and with a deep group of talented and experienced players in front of him that should be expected.
– In 2013 it could be time to see him make an impact on special teams however, so keep an eye out for production from him in that area.
History of No. 84 at Wisconsin:
Donald Hayes (WR, 1994-97): He had over 100 career receptions (106 to be exact), putting him just outside the top 10. He led the Badgers in receiving yards his final two seasons in the Cardinal and White and played five seasons in the NFL.
Lance Kendricks (TE, 2007-2010): Kendricks started out as a wide receiver, but made the switch to tight end for his sophomore season and continued the tradition of amazing tight ends at Wisconsin. He is 19th in career receiving yards at UW with 1,160 on just 78 receptions. He twice went over the 100 yard receiving mark in his senior season, going for 131 yards against Arizona State and 103 yards against Austin Peay. Kendricks is a member of the St. Louis Rams after being drafted in the 2nd round by them in in the 2011 draft.
