Survivor Series 2014 will go down in history as the Pay-Per-View where the most powerful couple, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, was stripped of their authority and control over the WWE.
The Authority started the night completely confident in their ability to win until owner and chairman Vince McMahon added another twist to the five-on-five elimination match.
The initial rules were for each team to find five members to create the most powerful team in the WWE. If Team Authority wins, then Team Cena will be fired from the WWE. If Team Cena wins, The Authority will no longer be in power. Team Authority was made up of Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev, and Luke Harper. Team Cena had the just as powerful John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, Big Show, and Ryback.
Mr. McMahon added the shocking twist that if team Cena wins, the only person that will be able to give The Authority their power back will be none other than John Cena. A look of concern spread over Stephanie and Triple H’s faces as they realized how serious this match has become.
As the five members of each team walked down the ramp to the edge of the ring, the energy from the crowd was electrifying. Everyone knew what was at stake here. The match began with Triple H giving Mark Henry a pep talk and pumping him up only to turn around, be hit once in the face by the Big Show, and be pinned for a quick elimination.
The Authority, with a look of disbelief on their faces, knew at this moment that this was going to be a tough, dirty fight.
The match continued with Rollins entering the ring and attacking the Big Show followed by Kane entering and doing the same. Cena made a tag only to close line and dropkick Kane. As Harper tagged in, Cena made a quick change to send in Rowan for a showdown between former Wyatt brothers.
Rollins made the smart decision of tagging in. The personal feelings between Rowan and Harper could have only led to another elimination for Team Authority and Rollins was smart enough to know that.
Chaos soon followed as all members of the teams were battling in the center of the ring. Rollins quickly ran in and delivered a curb stomp to Ryback followed by a huge kick from Rusev and then a pin, eliminating Ryback.
The fighting continued as Triple H instructed Rusev to bring Ziggler to the announcer table and slam him through it. As Rusev leaped off, Ziggler moved out of the way, causing Rusev to feel the entire impact from the table. The referee started counting as Ziggler started to move. Rollins’s security members, Mercury and Noble, and Stephanie screamed at Rusev to get up. At the last second, Ziggler slid into the ring before the ten-count. As a result of Rusev missing the ten-count, he was eliminated via count-out. The elimination caused Team Authority to be down a superstar, and Stephanie and Triple H began to sweat.
Rowan and Harper started to trade punches. As Rowan beats Harper down with head-butts, Kane got knocked off the apron. Rowan nailed a spin-kick to Harper, but while the referee was not looking, Kane hit Rowan before Harper pinned him for the elimination. The teams then became tied again.
The events that came next were the most shocking of the night. As the remaining members of team Cena tried to gather in the ring, Big Show turned and KO punched Cena in the face, allowing Rollins to pin Cena for the elimination. As Stephanie is screamed in enjoyment, Big Show walked over to Triple H and shook his hand, showing his allegiance to The Authority. Big Show then left the ring and walked back to the locker room, leaving his team of only Ziggler to fend for himself.
Cena soon came to realize what has happened. His faith then lied in Ziggler to end what was left of The Authority. Ziggler, who was lying on the floor not moving, was dragged back into the ring by Kane and tossed around. Ziggler then hit the Zig Zag to pin Kane before eliminating Harper as well.
The Authority could not believe their eyes. Ziggler was actually fighting back and eliminating the final members of their team, leaving their chance of victory very slim.
Their only hope was for Rollins to finish off Ziggler. As Rollins went for a curb stomp and missed, Ziggler hits the Fame-asser and tried to pin Rollins before coming up short. Mercury and Noble tried to interfere but Ziggler kicked them out of the way, sending them flying into Stephanie and knocking her onto Triple H.
Rollins missed another curb stomp, allowing Ziggler to hit the Zig Zag and pin Rollins. As the referee was about to count to three, Triple H pulled him out of the ring and entered to finish the match himself. He delivered a Pedigree to Ziggler and placed Rollins on top for the pin. He then called in his personal referee, Scott Armstrong to come and count. As Armstrong began his count, music and a video appear on the titan tron, sending fans into a frenzy.
Sting, a former WCW champion and pro wrestling icon, made his highly anticipated WWE debut. Sting and Triple H circled each other, waiting to see who will make the first move. Triple H tries to attack, but Sting ducked and hit Triple H with the Scorpion Death Drop, leaving him lying in the middle of the ring. Sting then walked over to Ziggler and put his arm over Rollins. The original referee returned and completed the three-count, naming Ziggler and Team Cena the winners.
As Stephanie woke up she saw Triple H laying in the ring, she crawled in and soon realizes that Team Authority had lost.
A screaming Stephanie and a well deserved “na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye”, from the fans, were the last things you heard from the WWE universe as the electrifying Pay-Per-View came to an end.
The downside of all of this is that the WWE is losing their villainous power couple. They bring a type of energy to WWE that no other person could ever replace.
On Monday Night Raw when Triple H and Stephanie came out to say their goodbyes, they made sure that everyone knew that the company would not survive without them.
I agree. Without The Authority, there is no source of power. They are the couple that everyone loves to hate and without them, the show will be lacking that fire and passion for the business.
But I don’t think they will be without power for long. It’s just a matter of how they will weasel their way back in.
Tune in to see how will Stephanie and Triple H try to get their jobs back. This sure will be interesting…
