Automatic Otto Rankings: Week 2

5- Peyton Manning, Broncos (last week: NR)

There’s an old saying that goes “one more for the road”. Thursday night we saw one last great performance by Peyton Manning as he brought the Broncos back in Kansas City not once, not twice, but three times to tie the game, including a masterful final drive in which Denver tied the game with 36 seconds to play.

A Kansas City fumble recovered by Denver was returned for the eventual game winning touchdown, however, Peyton’s bounce back from a horrible opening week, was a thing of beauty.

4- Derek Carr, Raiders (last week: NR)

Going into this season, there was a major buzz going on in Oakland, especially with their QB Derek Carr, the face of the franchise. In Week One, the Raiders were beat up and Carr was KO’d from the game. In Week Two however, Carr torched the same defense that didn’t allow a single offensive touchdown to the Denver Broncos.

Carr completed 30 of 46 passes for 351 yards, one pick, and three touchdowns, including the game winner with 30 seconds to play as the Raiders beat Baltimore 37-33.

3- Carson Palmer, Cardinals (last week: NR)

If Carson Palmer can stay healthy for a whole season, the Cardinals might just be the best team in the NFC. In his last 17 starts, Arizona is 15-2 with Palmer under helm.

On Sunday against Chicago, Palmer shredded the Bears defense to the tune of four touchdowns, giving him a share of the league lead with Tom Brady with seven TD passes.

2- Aaron Rodgers, Packers (last week: 2)

No Nelson, No Eddie Lacy after the first quarter, and no Davante Adams for most of the first half on Sunday night against the defending NFC Champions, and even that wasn’t enough to slow down the reigning MVP. Rodgers threw for a pair of scores as the Packers beat Seattle 27-17.

1- Tom Brady, Patriots (last week: 1)

Sunday’s matchup at Buffalo was supposed to be a rough and tuff grind it out, 17-14 kind of football game. Instead, Tom Brady went into Orchard Park and picked apart Rex Ryan’s defense, completing 38 of 59 passes for 466 yards, and three touchdowns, as the Pats jumped out to a 37-13 lead going into the 4th quarter.

Although Buffalo made a run late in the game, Brady led the Pats to one more scoring drive, putting the game away. On the season, Brady leads the league in passing yards and is tied for the lead in touchdown passes.

Two Weeks into the season, and Tom Brady is still top dawg for the Automatic Otto Award.
