5- Jameis Winston, Bucs (last week: NR)
Winston makes his debut on the Automatic Ottos after leading Tampa to an upset win on the road against Atlanta. Winston fired for one score, and ran in another.
4- Carson Palmer, Cardinals (last week: NR)
The Cardinals were down 20-7 on the road in Cleveland before Palmer led a furious comeback that saw Arizona outscore the Browns 27-0 the rest of the game. Palmer fired three touchdowns during the comeback (four in total), as the Cards won 34-20.
3- Cam Newton, Panthers (last week: NR)
Cam Newton and the Panthers remained undefeated on the season, after holding off the Colts in a 29-26 win on Monday Night. Cam wasn’t pretty (more incompletions than completions), but he did enough to be get the Panthers out to a 23-6 lead, and then drove the Panthers in overtime twice for scores, including the game winner with 5:27 left to play.
Newton is an MVP candidate.
2- Derek Carr, Raiders (last week: 4)
Derek Carr returns to the list for a second straight week after a brilliant performance against the NY Jets. Carr torched a very good Jets defense to the tune of four touchdown passes as the Raiders moved one game above .500 and pulled into sole possession of 2nd place in the AFC West.
1- Eli Manning, Giants and Drew Brees, Saints (last week: NR)
I have never in my entire football life, seen two quarterbacks have the kind of day that Eli and Drew Brees had last week. Eli finished 30 of 41 for 350 yards and 6 touchdown passes. Drew Brees finished 39 of 50 for 505 yards and 7 touchdown passes, as the Saints won in an arena-football type game, 52-49.
I couldn’t pick one over the other, I’ll just simply tip my hat to both QBs. They deserved it.
