Updated, 1:23 p.m.:
Avery is now telling Larry Brooks at the New York Post that he is retiring that that he will embark on his post-hockey career next month with an advertising agency…

“No, that wasn’t a joke; yes I’m retiring at the end of the season, and it’s OK.

“I guess that was my retirement press conference.”

…now Avery is just messing with us. Or his agent.

Updated, 12:41 p.m.:
Katie Strang at ESPN NY reports that Avery’s agent Pat Morris says his client’s comments last night on retirement were “not serious.”

Here’s video of Avery stating he’s retired (4:15 mark) (h/t Dave Lozo)…

Original Post:
NHL.com reports that Sean Avery said Monday night during an After Show segment of Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live that he was leaving the game.

When asked about his hockey future, Avery said…

“I am officially retired. I threw my skates in the Hudson.”

…with the way Avery’s season ended I’m not surprised to hear this. Having said that, I think his love for the game is too strong and after having some time to reflect, he’ll end up in an NHL camp come September.

…and if not, he’s got some restaurants to manage and a fashion career to begin.
