Glen Davis, who has taken 20 charges so far this season, went into last night's game having taken a charge in every game of the season.
With 7:38 to play, it looked like he might have kept his streak alive. Jamal Crawford drove the lane and Baby was there outside the restricted area in time. But it was called a block. It's a borderline call. Taking a look at the rule book, this is what the debate is over:
A defensive player must allow an alighted player the distance to land and then stop or change direction when the offensive player is outside the lower defensive box.
at :04, Jamal starts to jump. As he's starting to jump, Baby is still sliding over. So it would seem that, by rule, Baby was just a half-slide late and that the block was a good call.
But it's really close… and we've all probably seen that call go the other way. So I'll put it out to you: Was this a charge, or a block?
