Backstage Update On When Kevin Owens Is Expected To Return To WWE

Kevin Owens

WWE has been without one of its top Raw stars, Kevin Owens, since the former Universal Champion elected to undergo double knee surgery back in 2018.

Following surgery, the timetable for Owens’ return was January or February of this year, however, WWE might be holding off on bringing KO back to the ring once he receives medical clearance to return.

According to a new report from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE currently has plans to bring Kevin Owens back after WrestleMania 35, despite KO likely being cleared to return to the ring before the big PPV in April.

It’s always possible plans could change and Owens could be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match, but it appears more likely at this point that Owens will be making his return after WrestleMania to allow him more than ample time to recover from surgery.

“Even though Owens is expected to be cleared fairly soon, right now the decision is not to bring him back to television until after Mania,” reads The Observer report.

In other injury news, Sami Zayn, who is recovering from surgery on both of his rotator cuffs, as well as Sin Cara, who is also recovering from injury, have been working out as of late at the WWE Performance Center preparing for their in-ring returns. At last word, Zayn was not expected to be returning to the ring until after WrestleMania as he had surgery performed on both of his shoulders.

We reported earlier this week that The Bludgeon Brothers, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, have been cleared to return to the ring, however, The Observer reports that Harper has not been cleared as of this writing. As for Erick Rowan, it remains unclear if he has been cleared to return to the ring, but he has been working out at the WWE Performance Center which is typically a sign that he might be returning to the ring in the very near future.
