Nolan Kern (NR, OT; Eau Claire, WI): I hope you’re seeing a theme at this point. Wisconsin is doing a lot of favors by taking in some recruits in the borders of the state and Kern is another one of those cases. Kern’s chances of having a committable offer from this weekend will depend on a few other names that will be visiting (and not camping) over the weekend. The 6’3″, 315-pounder has some talent to him, I’m just not sure he’ll get an offer right away with who the Badgers already have offers out to.
Brandyn Lee (3-star, WR; West Hills, CA): Lee has a lot of offers, including from Wisconsin. From what I’ve heard he will not participate in camp itself, but be there for an unofficial visit. With schools like Washington State, Fresno State and Nevada in the mix the Badgers will have some stiff competition on their hands.
C.J. Johnson (3-star, WR; Bellevue, NE): Unlike Lee, Johnson is on camp as a 3-star prospect that is camping for an offer from the Badgers. At 6’1″, 180 pounds he has some intriguing size for Wisconsin and his tape shows a player with some impressive speed to him. If he can be consistent over the weekend it shouldn’t be a surprise to see an offer extended to him.
Jordan Steckler (NR, OT; Two Rivers, WI): Steckler has one FBS offer, from Air Force, and has a handful of FCS offers to his name. He’s a typical Wisconsin offensive lineman at 6’5″, 293 pounds and could be another under the radar player to earn his offer with his performance at camp. He did camp at Minnesota last weekend and has not received an offer as of yet, so it will be interesting to see what Wisconsin thinks of him after this weekend.
Richard Burney (NR, TE; Chesapeake, VA): The Badgers already have one tight end and could have another in the fold soon in David Edwards. So why is Burney camping from all the way out in Virginia? He’s a very versatile player and could be a big option for the Badgers as a long snapper—especially with their No. 1 option off the board to Ohio State in this class. I’ve liked his game as a tight end, but it’s hard to see Wisconsin taking three tight ends in this class considering who they are after.
Chris Orr (NR, ILB; DeSoto, TX): Wisconsin already got an under the radar commitment from an inside linebacker in Nick Thomas, but Orr could be another pick up for the Badgers after this weekend. DeSoto could be in the mix for another duo of Texas commits and Orr could be the key to that pipeline opening up. All things considered, this could be a quick commitment for the Badgers and another indication of a coaching staff evaluating talent over star rankings on the recruiting trail.
Kyler Manu (3-star, OLB; Pocatello, ID): This is a prospect we haven’t seen much of or talked a lot about, however the Badgers did offer the undersized linebacker at the end of April. He is currently a Boise State commit, but is unofficially visiting Wisconsin to get the feel for the program. Manu has other offers from Pac-12 programs Washington and Utah as well as UW. Could this be another under the radar pick up for UW? It is interesting that a committed prospect is taking this type of visit, especially from the West Coast.
James Morgan (4-star QB; Ashwaubenon, WI): Don’t worry; UW hasn’t soured on committed prospect Austin Kafentzis at all. However, having a good arm in camp to help evaluate wide receivers is always a plus. Additionally, Morgan performs well in the camp setting and is still looking for his first “Power 5” offer. It won’t come this weekend, at least not from Wisconsin. Having lived in the area (and gone to rival Bay Port back in the day) I’ve seen Morgan on plenty of occasions, and it’s a shame he doesn’t fit what UW wants to do because he’s got loads of talent. His arm is incredible and he continues to get better each game and camp. Don’t be surprised to see him be a late addition to a big program though.
