2016 Prospects:
Thiyo Lukusa (4-star, OT; Traverse City, MI): Another case of an unofficial visitor, but this one is a bit on the surprising side as Lukusa’s name hasn’t been associated with UW all that much coming in to the summer. Michigan is the big-time favorite for the in-state prospect, but a great visit could put UW in the mix and it is awfully early. Pulling a 4-star lineman from Michigan would be a hell of a coup.
Alvin Burris (NR, LB; Milwaukee, WI): Here is another player who may not fit well as a safety or as a linebacker given his size of 5’10” and 205 pounds, but he sure shows well on tape. Burris already camped at Illinois and is scheduled to attend this weekend’s camp at UW before also going up to Minnesota. This camp could be huge for the 2016 prospect, but it remains to be seen just how quickly the Badgers staff will offer the in-state prospects in the 2016 recruiting cycle. He’s not on the level of a 5-star rating, so UW may have the luxury of waiting to figure out the board in 2016 a bit more after camp before offering (if at all).
Sam Schlueter (NR, OG; Mayer, MN): At 6’6″ and 255 pounds, this 2016 prospect has plenty of room to grow. For Schlueter it will be key to show technique and a nasty streak if he is to be on the Badgers radar for an offer. Don’t expect one coming his way immediately following camp though, as UW will be after plenty of inside talent in this class rated much higher. However, keep him in the back of your mind as he could be a potential sleeper with more weight on his frame.
Matthew Falcon (3-star RB; Southfield, MI): Wisconsin has been looking to establish some roots in the state of Michigan for a while, and have already landed one in the class of 2015. Falcon comes in rated as a 3-star by the 247Sports composite rankings and will be looking to get an offer. He’s probably on the high end of the 3-star range considering an offer is already out from Ohio State, but he will have to earn his offer at camp most likely. From everything I see on tape, expect that offer to be a near certainty. Oh, and don’t read too much in to the Crystal Ball predictions for Ohio State, the guys that have done it haven’t met a prospect they don’t think will wind up in Columbus.
Mikale Washington (NR QB, Detroit, MI): No question that Austin Kafentzis is the kid UW is hooked to in the 2015 recruiting cycle. However, 2016 is pretty wide open and from the reports we’ve heard Washington could well earn an offer from UW with a good performance during camp. He’s listed as a pro-style quarterback, but everything I’ve heard about him from those in Michigan screams exactly what UW wants—strong arm with vision and the ability to use his feet. The only thing is Washington isn’t asked to use his feet all that often.
Toren Young (NR RB; Madison, WI): The Wisconsin coaching staff should be plenty familiar with what Young can do, after all he was the primary back that prized 2014 OT Jaden Gault was blocking for. However, don’t sleep on this running back either. His film shows a back that is a one-cut type player and at 5’11” and 200 pounds before his junior year he’s clearly the type of back UW could like. There’s a much better crop of talent in the 2016 class in the state of Wisconsin and Young could (and should IMO) receive an offer from the Badgers. It would be an interesting battle between Young and 2015’s Jamari Manuel for the best back in the Madison area overall.
Jake Heinrich (NR, OG; Urbandale, IA): If there’s one thing we know about the state of Iowa (besides the fact that the Hawkeyes suck) it is that they produce quality offensive lineman too. Heinrich could be an interesting prospect, but getting him out of the grasp of Iowa and Iowa State may be a tough task. He does play for a quality program in Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines, so there is some good coaching going on. Will he be an offer for the Badgers after this camp? At 6’4″, 275 pounds already there’s plenty of things to like about his game. If he performs well look for the Badgers to jump in on an offer for this Iowa product.
