Badgers add Florida CB to 2016 recruiting class

The Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff has left virtually no stone unturned in its quest to fill out their first full recruiting class. However, it didn’t need to look hard to find the latest commitment.

On Sunday morning, our recruiting partners at Badger247 are reporting that cornerback Dontye Carriere-Williams has committed to the Badgers. All the Badgers had to do was look to one of the premier high school football programs in the country — St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

The young cornerback was a verbal pledge to Cincinnati just a month ago, but after the Badgers got involved with the 5-10, 175-pound recruit it was game over shortly thereafter. Wisconsin got Carriere-Williams to visit Madison on Dec. 5 and just 15 days later he committed to Wisconsin.

Carrire-Williams is the No. 112-ranked cornerback in the class of 2016 and a three-star prospect. Those numbers may not jump off the page at you, however he comes from a background of pure winning football.

It is what led 247Sports to rank him the No. 39 cornerback and the No. 56 prospect in the state of Florida in their most recent evaluations.

He helped lead his former school — Miami/Booker T. Washington — to state championships in both hi sophomore and junior seasons. This year, St. Thomas Aquinas also claimed a Florida state championship, making him a three-time state title winner.

Defensive line coach Inoke Brecktefield did the work to get Carriere-Williams to Madison and once there the new commit was blown away.

“I love Madison,” Carriere-Williams said to Badger247. “It’s live. I love the city.”

He becomes the 22nd verbal commitment in the 2016 class, joining fellow three-star and Florida native, Ke’Shan Pennamon, as cornerback commitments in the class.

The Badgers are the No. 29-ranked class in the 247Sports composite team rankings and the No. 5 class in the Big Ten as well.
