Wisconsin hasn’t had a commitment for the 2015 class in a few months, and the Wisconsinites were getting restless. As big as the 52-7 scoreline was on the field, the two commitments for the class of 2015 were big too.
It was learned during the game that in-state athlete Zack Baun from Brown Deer, Wis. made a verbal commitment to attend UW on a greyshirt offer. It means he will pay his own way in 2015 and come on scholarship in 2016 as a freshman.
Baun spoke to our recruiting partners at Badger247 about his commitment, saying it was his dream school and how much the program made him feel like he belonged.
“Growing up in Wisconsin really influenced my decision,” Baun told Badger247. “I felt like I belonged there already. I liked the coaches and their focus on academics is incredible. They guide you through every step of the way and help you achieve off the field.”
However, that news was topped as the long rumored commitment from UW’s biggest target remaining at linebacker, Jordan Griffin, finally came.
The Seffner (Fla.) Armwood linebacker visited the Wisconsin campus earlier this season, but did not pull the trigger on a commitment despite falling in love with what the Badgers program and Madison had to offer him.
Griffin took his time after returning home and convinced his family it was the place he wanted to be the most.
“When I went up there, everyone made me feel like I was a part of the family,” Griffin told Badger247. “I felt like it was a place I could see myself playing and a place I could call home.”
Griffin comes to the Badgers as the No. 34-ranked inside linebacker, the No. 136-ranked player in Florida and the No. 957-ranked player in the country via the 247sports composite rankings.
Just how big of a deal wash Griffin’s commitment to the Badgers? The reaction from head coach Gary Andersen should speak volumes.
“It was the funniest thing,” Griffin laughed. “Coach Andersen ran to me and hugged me.”
Griffin becomes the fifth linebacker commit, the third from the state of Florida and the 21st overall commit to the Badgers class of 2015. With the commitment on Saturday Wisconsin ranks No. 24 in the country and No. 3 in the Big Ten for the class.
