Our partners at Badger247 have reported that Badgers football have offered their first quarterback of the 2016 recruiting cycle. UW extended the offer to Jarrett Guarantano, a 4-star pro-style quarterback.
He’s the No. 3-ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2016 class and attends a school UW fans should be very familiar with — Bergen Catholic. It’s the same high school of current UW junior quarterback Tanner McEvoy.
Guarantano is not in the same mold as McEvoy, but he does poses good size (6’4″, 195-pounds) and an impressive arm already, and he may be more advanced at passing coming out of high school because of the increased years playing the position at high school.
Wisconsin is clearly looking for more athletic quarterbacks having signed D.J. Gillins already and having a verbal commitment from dual-threat Austin Kafentzis for the 2015 class.
The Badgers join Ohio State, Rutgers, Michigan State, Nebraska, Tennessee and Arizona State to name a few offering him a scholarship. It’s an interesting mix of prototypical offenses and more dual-threat needs at quarterback in on his recruitment so far.
His ability to run either a spread or more traditional system is what gives him the variety of offers. He spoke to 247Sports last week about his recruitment, stating he’s looking for a mix of offensive systems.

Listening to him talk though, it sounds like UW will have a big battle on its hands if it lands him. Mentioning Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Florida State is really swinging for the fences to be sure.
According to 247Sports, the leader in Crystal Ball predictions is Ohio State, but it is very early in the process and only seven predictions are currently in.
With this offer, the Badgers have 30 offers already out to the class of 2016. Once again, Andersen and his staff are showing a very different approach to recruiting kids early compared to the previous staff.
