The Badgers did not score 100 points, nor did Frank Kaminsky drop 43. But hey, style points don't count in wins and losses. Wisconsin (5-0, 4-0 home) took care of business Thursday night and took down Bowling Green (1-2, 0-1 away) in a 88-64 decision at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers shot an impressive 54.9% (28-51) from the field and 60% (12-20) from three while limiting themselves to a reasonable 10 turnovers. On the defensive side of the ball, the Badgers held Bowling Green to just 44.4% (28-63) shooting and forced six turnovers.
It wasn't the prettiest performance from the Badgers defensively, but the way UW has been scoring the ball thus far they haven't needed outstanding defense.
If there's one area the Badgers could have improved on in this game, it was defensive rebounding. Bowling Green grabbed 10 offensive boards which led to a significant amount of second chance points. Wisconsin simply cannot afford to give up those kind of second chances once Big Ten play rolls around, so making sure the boards are on lockdown is crucial.
Oh yeah, and Sam Dekker did this.
Most Valuable Player: Ben Brust had an outstanding game and was very efficient in doing so. Brust scored 19 points on 6-10 shooting and 5-6 from beyond the arc. He also added 6 boards, 2 assists while tallying up a whopping total of 0 turnovers. That's the kind of stat line Bo Ryan drools over.
Stat of the night: Kaminsky, Dekker, Brust, Gasser, Koenig and Jackson all scored in double figures. Tonight was the first time since 1995 the Badgers had six players score in double figures.
What's next?: The Badgers are back at the Kohl Center on Saturday night for a matchup with the Golden Eagles. No, not Marquette quite yet, but the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
