Madison, Wis. — After four years of remarkable work rebranding the Wisconsin offensive scheme as an assistant coach, Randy Schneider has been elevated to the associate head coach position, head coach Yvette Healy announced Tuesday.
The move comes following another record-breaking campaign for the Badgers in which they won 36 games, including 15 in Big Ten play—both tied for the second most in school history—and reached the conference semifinals and NCAA Regional Championships for the second-straight year.
“We are proud that Randy will move into the associate head coach role at the University of Wisconsin,” Healy said. “Coach Schneider is one of the top offensive minds in the country. He’s innovative, strategic and process-driven. In just four years he’s shattered every offensive record we have yet what impresses me most is that for as talented a teacher, mentor and coach Randy is, he’s an even better person.”
Much of the program’s turnaround from three-straight 30-loss seasons from 2008 to 2010 to four-straight 30-plus win seasons since Healy’s hire can be credited to her decision to bring on Schneider as an offensive specialist.
In the last four years, Wisconsin has amassed a remarkable 144-75 record, while producing 11 All-Region and 15 All-Big Ten selections. The 11 All-Region honors, which included a school record six in 2014, is two more than UW had in the previous 15 years combined.
In 2013, the Badgers set single-season records in seven offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.443), OPS (.826), runs (283), hits (458), RBI (247), total bases (678) and walks (173). The team also tied a program-best with a .300 team batting average.
Schneider, a graduate of Wartburg College, was previously head coach at Valparaiso for seven seasons where he was named the Horizon League Co-Coach of the Year in 2008. He is the program’s all-time winningest coach and saw 26 of his players receive All-League honors, while overseeing Valparaiso’s first NFCA All-Region honoree in 2010.
