Wisconsin Women's Soccer got off to a high flying start to their 2012 campaign but have come crashing back to earth in the Big Ten, struggling on the road especially. Unfortunately those struggles came home with them on Friday night as they dropped a game at home for just the 2nd time in 2012, losing 3-2 in overtime to Nebraska.
Nebraska started things off right, as Mayme Conroy opened up her account for the night in the 13th minute and doubled up the Badgers in the 25th minute of action, giving the Huskers a 2-0 lead early on.
However, the Huskers lead wasn't safe for long as less than 30 seconds later Cara Walls would cut into their lead, making it 2-1 on her 5th goal of the season.
The Badgers weren't done yet in the half and evened things up just two minutes before the half, tying it up on Lindsey Holmes' 1st career goal. The score would remain 2-2 as they headed to the half.
After a strong performance in net last week against Ohio State junior Genevieve Richard got the start again and she would play a key role in this one, both good and bad.
Richard and her Husker counterpart, Emma Stevens, would hold the score at 2-2 through the 2nd half, forcing overtime. However, it took just 2 minutes in for the Huskers to sneak one past Richard. At 91:03 Mayme Conroy would finish off her hat trick with what would be the game winning goal.
The Badgers and Huskers were even in just about everything, including shots, which finished 13-11 in favor of Bucky.
Richard stopped 4 of the 7 shots that were on frame, while Nebraska's netminder stopped 3 of the 5 shots that Wisconsin managed to get on net.
With the loss Wisconsin dropped to 7-5-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in the Big Ten while Nebraska moved to 6-7-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play.
Up next for the Badgers is a step out of conference as they travel northeast to take on in-state foe Green Bay at 7pm on Monday.
We'll be live from the game, so make sure you're checking in with us for all the action live from Aldo Santaga Stadium.
