Heading into the playoffs, some fans questioned whether it’d be the last time we saw Barret Jackman in a St. Louis Blues uniform. Retirement was even a topic which came up, but that fell directly in the “speculation” category. As an unrestricted free agent, Jackman’s career is at a crossroads.
Following the Blues’ early exit, Jackman commented about his future in the NHL. Apparently he thinks he has quite a bit of time left.
Jackman. .."lots left in me, 4-5 years" #stlblues

At 34, Jackman’s answer is kind of surprising. There’s no context with his statement, but 4-5 years puts him pretty close to the age of 40. With skills which are clearly on the decline (Jackman is on the third pairing on the Blues and may soon be replaced by a younger option), that may be a lofty goal.
It’s important to note that those years may not be in St. Louis. There are teams out there who are not lucky enough to have the defensive depth of the Blues and would jump at the chance to land Jackman.
