Barret Jackman feels “rejuvenated” joining the Predators

Barret Jackman is starting a new chapter in his career. After the St. Louis Blues made it known that they weren’t going to offer Jackman a new contract, the veteran defenseman signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the Nashville Predators. Jackman is preparing to play for just the second NHL team in his career and he feels like a rookie again.

Jackman discussed his arrival with the official site of the Preds:

“I feel like a rookie again coming in and not knowing anybody on a new team. I’m trying to get the lay of the land, but it’s been fun and rejuvenating. It’s good to be back on the ice.

To go from being very familiar and maybe helping other guys out, to being the guy that needs to be held by the hand and shown everything, it’s something new. It’s also fun. Getting to see a new city and be around some new guys, I’m just kind of getting back to feeling like a kid again.”

Jackman has seemed to slow in recent years, but it sounds like a change of scenery might be exactly what the 34-year-old needs. He sounds ready to tackle a new challenge and for the first time since 2001-02, he’ll be the new guy on the roster.
