The free agency period has begun and as new faces meet new places, coaches and players alike are waiting by the phone to score that one missing piece to bring their team to a new plateau. After few good solid signings such as Patrick Chung and Kenny Phillips, the Eagles made a major move in signing former Houston Texan Connor Barwin. The two came to terms on a six year deal worth 36 million dollars.
In his career it’s been a tale of two different seasons in Houston. In 2011 Barwin had 11.5 sacks and was a marquee part of their defense. In 2012 it was a complete 360 turnaround with his production. He only recorded three sacks in which a major downfall in play for him as a player and raised some eyebrows from his coaches. He also played in the outside linebacker position so is a versatile player. We all know that Chip Kelly is an offensive guru but he is putting his thing down so far when it comes to defense. Since the start of free agency the Eagles have brought in two corner backs, two safeties, a linebacker, and nose-tackle. With the addition of Connor Barwin the Eagles bring in a superb addition to the linebacking corps. Bottom line he grabbed 11.5 sacks back in 2011 which means he has a good motor and can devour the quarterback.
