Baseball’s All-Time Easter Lineup

Easter is here which means two things…baseball is right around the corner and, well, my brunch reservations are at 11am.

So, in the spirit of the (Matt) Holliday, here is The Hall’s All-Time Easter Lineup.

C – JESUS MONTERO, 2011-2016

Montero was supposed to be the next great prospect for the New York Yankees, but after a 2012 trade to the Seattle Mariners…he’s been hit or miss. Mostly miss.

1B – LUKE EASTER, 1949-1954

Regarded by Bill James as the second-best first baseman in the Negro Leagues…Easter spent parts of six seasons in the Majors before being forced out of the game due to injuries.

2B – CHRISTIAN COLON, 2014-2016

Colon made history in the 2015 World Series when he became the first player to deliver a Series-clinching hit in his first World Series at bat. True story.

SS – RABBIT MARANVILLE, 1912-1935

Until Pete Rose broke his record, Maranville played in a Major League-best 23 seasons. Along the way, the eventual Hall of Famer collected 2605 hits.

3B – MIKE LAMB, 2000-2010

In 2005, Lamb became the first member of the Houston Astros to hit a home run in the World Series. Trivia!

LF – JOHNNY HOPP, 1939-1952

Hopp won four World Series rings (1942, 1944, 1950-1951) with three different teams. Not too shabby.

CF – BILLY SUNDAY, 1883-1890

An outfielder-turned-preacher, Sunday was credited as playing a significant role in the adoption of prohibition and the Eighteenth Amendment in 1919.

RF – RYAN CHURCH, 2004-2010

Church was considered a frontrunner for the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2005, but an injury sent him to the disabled list twice.

DH – BUNNY BRIEF, 1912-1917

Though he never hit more than two home runs in any of his Major League seasons, Brief holds the all-time record for home runs in the American Association with 256.

P – TED LILLY, 1999-2013

In fifteen seasons, Lilly compiled a 130-113 record with a 4.14 ERA.

P – CANDY CUMMINGS, 1872-1877

Elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939, Cummings was credited with inventing the curveball.
