Basketball Bits: Sunday’s Game Remains at 5pm

For those of us who are Packers and Badgers fans, especially in Green Bay, there was great hope and a sense that it would get done.  That it?  Moving the start time of the Badgers vs. Nebraska basketball game, so as not to conflict with the middle of the Packers home Divisional playoff game that afternoon.

So much for that though!  Wisconsin released a statement yesterday stating that “despite exhaustive efforts” they weren’t able to find a way to move the game time.

Why?  Because it would’ve affected a not only Nebraska and Wisconsin, but also quite a few other programs in the conference and it just became too much to late to get it done.

The biggest hinderance is that the Badgers vs. Nebraska game is the final of 4 games scheduled to air on the Big Ten Network.  The first two are women’s games in the 11am and 1pm time slots.  Followed by Minnesota vs. Penn State at 3pm and then the Wisconsin vs. Nebraska game as the cap at 5pm.

“We made a very legitimate effort to move our game off the window of the Packers game,” associate AD Justin Doherty said. “But changing the time of our game would have affected the travel, timin and schedules of up to half the schools in our conference, either on the men’s or women’s side.  This would have required the approval of all those schools.  The conference office tried to help facilitate a move, but logistically it was just not feasible.”

While it does stink to basically have to choose one or the other for that game, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered.  Our newest team member, Cole Brown, will be covering the game via our live twitter feed and will have a full post game wrap up for you after the game.

I know I fully plan on DVRing the Badgers game as frankly a Packers playoff game, which could be one and done, means a bit more in my sporting heart.  Having grown up and lived in Green Bay the vast majority of my life can have that affect.  Don’t you worry though I will share my thoughts once I’m caught up via DVR and as always… ON WISCONSIN!
