Entertainment Roundup: Battling through the Sophmore Season

blogThis week we’re looking at 5 shows that had stellar first seasons. How are they faring in #2? Here’s my thoughts:

Revenge
Revenge’s first season was exciting and showcased a fresh concept. I think this season has lost it’s edge. It’s focusing far too much on secondary characters, and not enough on Emily’s continued mission for revenge. Each episode this season has been good, but not great. It says a lot when these episodes pile up in my que.

Once Upon a Time
Are you interested in fairytales? Once Upon a Time incorporate tons of characters in very interesting ways. None of the characters or plots are included without intention. Everything fits together in a perfectly weaved web. It is a little challenging to keep up with all of the time portals and the family tree that can’t be drawn. But it’s a great show that will keep you interested, you should definitely watch it.

Smash
This show is flashy and confused. Season 1 wasn’t perfect. The Marilyn focus and the star competion became tired. This season was retooled with new music and different perspectives. The new characters and storylines are great, but they don’t play well with each other. The music is what is keeping me excited, but they need to get everything to gel together.

New Girl
The ‘new’ girl has lost her kookines and her title. The first season ended with Jess pulling her life together. Aparently fans didn’t like that, because this season began with unemployment and no love interest. I haven’t really been enjoying this show lately. Where is this show going? I thought I wanted Jess and Nick to get together, but Nick is a depressed bartender who doesn’t like being social. Do I really want to root for that?

Up All Night
Yeah… we all know how this turned out. Abandon Ship!
