Bearcat Summer League Update: July 17

The NBA Summer league is in it’s tournament, which means that it is almost at it’s end. A couple of very recent Bearcats are playing out in Las Vegas this summer. Let’s take a look at how they’ve done so far.

But first, both Justin Jackson, Charlotte Hornets, and Sean Kilpatrick, Philadelphia 76ers, play today. The games are available on NBA.com. The Hornets play at 4, the 76ers play at 10. I’m pretty sure you have to pay on NBA.com, but maybe the games are available elsewhere for no money. If you want to see how the guys are doing, this would be a great way.

Let’s start the Summer League update with Justin Jackson. In the 4 Charlotte games, he’s played a combined 9 minutes. He played 3 minutes in their thriller last night against Dallas. Jackson posted a 3 trillion. His only other action was July 11 against the Warriors, where he went 0-1, with a block. He also had a turnover and 2 fouls. Hopefully he’s getting a chance in practices, if they have those, to showcase and network so he can find himself a place in the D-League or in Europe because he doesn’t seem to be a piece of the Hornets puzzle.

Sean Kirkpatrick, on the other hand, has been given a chance to play his way maybe on to the 76ers. He played 26 minutes in their blowout victory yesterday. Kilpatrick had 19 points, tied for the team high, on 8-17 shooting. He hit 3-8 from 3. Kilpatrick also had 3 boards, 2 steals and 1 assist to 2 turnovers.

Killa has played in all 4 Philly games. He’s been getting steady minutes, 25, 13, 14 and yesterday’s 26. In the middle games, he went 2-5 in both, 1-4 and 1-2 from three respectively, and a combined 2-2 at the line. SK had 5 points and 2 assists in one game and 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 turnovers in the other.

His summer league debut saw Kilpatrick score 20 points on 7-13 shooting, 3-5 from 3, 3-3 at the line, with 3 boards, 1 steal, 1 block and 1 turnover. A 12.7 point scoring average on 8-19 from 3 isn’t the worst thing in the world. He’s been the lone 3 point threat on the 76ers, the rest of the team has made a combined 13-56. Only Jordan McRae, 90, Brandon Davies, 84, and Scottie Wilbekin, 80, have played more than Kilpatrick’s 79 minutes. I’m not saying SK is going to make the team, I’m saying he could have a legit chance to stick around the organization. It’s not exactly like Philadelphia is looking to win. They need bodies. From the looks of their summer league roster, they definitely need shooters. SK has filled that void. At worst, he’s turned some heads. Which is the point of summer league.
