Bearcats Shut Out of AAC Awards

The AAC awards have all been announced over the last two days. Not surprisingly, Cincinnati was shut out. There were slam dunk award winners that everyone saw coming. Nic Moore won the AAC Player of the Year award. Amida Brimah won the Defensive Player of the Year Award after his dominating defensive season with 101 blocks and the best shot block percentage in the nation during conference play. Daniel Hamilton won Rookie of the Year, which couldn’t have been a surprise since he was unanimous to the all rookie team and an honorable mention for the all conference teams. Markus Kennedy was the 6th man of the year.

There was one surprise. Fran Dunphy of Temple was named AAC coach of the year. Really thought that would go to Haith or Larry Brown. This is when I wish the league would release the numbers behind the voting. Congrats to Fran. They had a great season and he’s obviously a hell of a coach.

Not really a surprise a Bearcat wasn’t honored. Ellis may have had an outside shot at defensive player of the year. Larry Davis was in a log jam for coach of the year. He could have finished high but we’ll never know. Gary Clark didn’t seem to have much of a shot at rookie of the year, especially since he wasn’t unanimous to the all rookie team.

Here are all the AAC awards.
