Cincinnati was taking care of business for the last 10 minutes of the first half and the first 5 minutes of the second half. They had built a 24 point lead and life was good. Then UC did as they are wont to do in that situation, take their foot off the gas. The Bearcats didn’t do much in the way of guarding Providence star Vincent Council. Council responded by dropping in 7 of 8 shots at one point. The Friars cut a 24 point lead to 7. It was pretty intense. Luckily for everyone involved on the happy side, the Friars went cold and Cincinnati was able to add on to their lead, putting PC away 81-66. Uc is now 18-7 on the year, 8-5 in the Big East.
There were some things to be very happy about. The Bearcats took care of the ball and took smart shots the first half. They shot 53% in the first half. They crushed PC on the glass and held the Friars to a low shooting percentage. In the second half, UC got up big and then got sloppy. They turned the ball over 6 times, 5 in the middle of a long Friar run. UC was only 11-30 the second half. The Friars hit 14-29, 6-14 from deep.
Vincent Council was fantastic. He had 29 to tie his career high. He had 21 of those in the second half. LaDontae Henton had 24, 14 in the first half, and 8 rebounds. They made 20 of the 25 PC field goals. That was a lot. For the Bearcats, Sean Kilpatrick bounced back from a single digit game against Marquette by putting 22 on the Friars. Yancy Gates was able to dominate. He had 16-9 and at least 4 #GatesDunks.
