When people think of games between the Packers and Bears, they often think of cold weather.
But this cold?
The Packers visit the Bears for a 1 p.m. game Sunday. According to Pro Football Talk, the forecast for the temperature at kickoff is minus-1. According to the Bears, the coldest kickoff temperature recorded in Chicago was 2 degrees on Dec. 22, 2008 against the Packers. If Sunday’s forecast is correct, the Bears will play the coldest home game in their history.
That’s saying something considering the vast sample size of cold-weather games at Soldier Field.
The weather could be a problem for Aaron Rodgers, who is nursing calf and hamstring injuries. The Packers (7-6) are a game behind the Buccaneers for the final wild-card spot in the NFC.
The Bears (3-10) would love to play spoiler in the NFL’s oldest rivalry, and they’ll want to maintain their all-time lead in the series. They’re 93-92-6 against the Packers. Most importantly, without a playoff berth to chase, players will be fighting for jobs. They’re going to have to do it in a historic cold. Not exactly the glamorous side of the NFL.
