Brandon Marshall and the Chicago Bears agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract extension that keeps the Pro Bowl receiver under contract with the team through the 2017 season, the team announced Monday.
Marshall tweeted that the extension is worth $30 million, and a person with knowledge of the contract confirmed it includes $23 million guaranteed. He signed the deal during an appearance on “The View,” a talk show on ABC.
Marshall, 30, is currently under contract for $9.3 million for the 2014 season–$9.1 million in base salary and a $200,000 workout bonus. So that positions him to earn $39.3 million from the Bears over the next four seasons.
“He is healthy,” according to Chicago GM Phil Emery. “He feels great. We have a really good relationship. He gets along very well with his teammates. Obviously the things he did during the offseason to show leadership and to help pull the team together, they mean a lot, they mean a lot to our other players. It just shows the quality of person he is.”
In two seasons since joining the Bears via trade in 2012, Marshall has shown he is an absolute beast by totaling 218 receptions, 2,803 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns.
In all this excellent news for Bears fans Marshall is certainly one of the elite receivers in the league.
