I was beginning to think Josh Beckett was never gonna get any dang run support. Beckett’s last outing was the 16 inning marathon game against Tampa and this game was starting to look no different. Beckett pitched well last night with his only blemish being a solo HR to Carp in the 7th. Beckett’s pitching line for the night was 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 BB ans 7 Ks. However, Beckett left the mound in line for a loss if the offense didn’t get something going on.
Luckily, the Sox once again had some 7th inning magic to give Beckett a lead and a chance for a win. With 2 outs, Ellsbury got a 2 run RBI hit to give the Sox a 2-1 lead. Ells would come home that inning on a wild pitch to give the Sox a 3-1 lead. Wowza…Ellsbury is just having an awesomesauce season. He’s the Comeback Player of the Year if there ever was one.
Things got interesting in the 8th when Dan Bard loaded the bases with no outs. However, Bard reminded us just how special he is by retiring the next 3 batters in order and allowing NO RUNS TO SCORE. Dan Bard sure looked like the closer in waiting last night. Bard’s scoreless streak is now siting pretty at 24 innings. Pap came out and closed up the game only allowing one hit.
The Mariners have now lost 14 straight games.
