Josh Beckett dominated on the mound tonight flirting with a no-hitter into the 7th. Granderson slapped a two-out single; up to that point Beckett had retired 18 straight batters.
Big Papi was 1-4 with a bases loaded double and every member of the Red Sox in the starting lineup had a hit in the game. Mike Lowell had his 1500th career hit in the game and Kotsay played for the first time after Youk left the game when his ankle was stepped on by Josh Anderson.
The Tigers showed some signs of life late and were boosted by some infield errors before Saito eventually closed the door.
