Josh Beckett and Roy Halladay will both be free agents after next season. If the Jays do not deal Halladay during the offseason they will most likely deal him before the trade deadline if they are not in the playoff hunt. The Red Sox might try to extend Beckett’s contract before the end of next season but they may look at Halladay as a replacement if Beckett’s demands are too high. Beckett has a career ERA of 3.79 and Halladay’s is 3.43 Their 2009 numbers are similar:
2009 | GAMES | ERA | K’s | WHIP |
Beckett | 32 (17-6) | 3.86 | 199 | 1.19 |
Halladay | 32 (17-6) | 2.79 | 208 | 1.13 |
