Before Tip-Off: Parker out, Neal to start at point guard vs. Clippers

“Lob City” is in the building as Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and the Los Angeles Clippers (22-15) come into the AT&T Center for the final time of the regular season as they face the San Antonio Spurs (26-12).

One key matchup was set to be All-Star point guards Paul and Spurs point guard Tony Parker, but it seems that has changed.

According to Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, Parker isn’t at full health.

“Tony’s out, some muscle strain in his thigh.”

The official injury is a right quad strain, but coach Popovich wants to ensure Parker doesn’t add more to the injury.

“He could probably go out there and play and be half assed,” said Popovich, “but that doesn’t make any sense.”

As for Parker’s replacement and the effect on the starting lineup, point/shooting guard Gary Neal will start for Parker and Danny Green reinserted back into the starting lineup. Neal has shown production at both positions, and even Coach Popovich is a little unsure exactly what position Neal really plays.

“I don’t know what the hell he is?”

Clippers forward Blake Griffin slightly injured his ankle on Wednesday, but head coach Vinny Del Negro said he’s ok to play tonight.
